The power of our words..

Affirmations what are they really all about! Recently I spoke to a group about affirmations and I would say the group was quite evenly split, half were with me and already appreciated the power of our words and the other half thought I was completely bonkers! 

So really what are they all about? 

Why don’t I give you some info and you can decide which camp your in...

Affirmations are the bomb.

I was first introduced to the world of Affirmations by the lady that will for me always be the guru Louise Hay, in her book You can Heal your Life, she describes how words, thoughts and emotions all have an energetic value, a different vibrational frequency. And our vibrational energy attracts things into our lives. So when we are relaxed, calm and having fun we attract more situations and circumstances that match this vibration. The opposite is also true, when we are stressed, anger or sad we can unintentionally attract more of the same. 

Basically we are a huge magnet! 

Good vibes only...thanks very much! 

So what does all of this have to do with affirmations you ask! Well our thoughts begin with words, then our thoughts lead to emotions and then to our actions and behaviours. So if the words that we use towards ourselves in our mind are harsh, cruel or negative, we are likely to have negative thoughts, to feel pretty crap and no shit Sherlock what we are going to attract is more negativity (people or situations), more drama and more stress! 

So instead let’s programme some balance in there and start to affirm that life is good, that today is a good day, that we are enough exactly as we are, that I love and accept who I am, that we are lucky, that we are supported, that we live a life of ease!

Why not give it a go, feel free to use the ones above or to create your own. Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, take a deep breath and repeat your affirmations. Notice how it feels. Be prepared that initially it might seem a little odd, there might be some resistance...that’s ok this is a practice, so the more we practice the easier it becomes!
