How could you be using lockdown to enhance your fertility?
May 04, 2020So this undoubtedly a time of great stress, uncertainty and worry but could this also present you with an opportunity to enhance your fertility?
Mind Body Method
We know that good nutrition, exercise, sleep, rest and reducing stress can all enhance fertility, so could lockdown be the time for you to take stock of your current health physically, mentally and emotionally. I created the Mind Body Method from my 20 yrs experience of understanding the mind and body connection and the negative impact that stress can have in our reproductive health and general wellbeing. The Mind Body Method combines Reflexology, Hypnotherapy, Nutrition, Rest and Relaxation and Yoga to return the body to its natural state of balance and wellness.
Pre Covid-19 I saw many couples in the clinic all TTC, doing their best to be in their optimum health for Conception. But what I often saw was clients who were still trying to be and do everything for everyone else, often tired, often overwhelmed, intimacy and sex had become only reproductive sex, nutrition was slotted in around everything else.
What this time has done for many is created space and time, removing unnecessary activities. Has asked many to change how they work. Has got us to really focus on our health and wellbeing. It’s given us space and time, to reconnect with our body and to have time to rekindle intimacy.
The impact of lockdown.
Since lockdown I’ve been continuing to support clients online and I’ve noticed some really positive changes.
Nourishing the body for conception.
This is a big part of my Mind Body Method. During lockdown there has been an opportunity to prepare meals from scratch, we know that our preconceptual nutrition is the building blocks for health eggs and sperm and a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. But its not only what we eat its how we eat, pre lockdown most people rarely stopped for a proper lunch break, instead eating on the go was the norm. Currently we have been given the more time to sit down and enjoy our food, thus supporting us to get the best nutrition from the food we are eating.
Exercise for Fertility.
We all know that exercise is good for our health and this means its vital for our fertiltiy. Couples are enjoying taking time to walk as part of their daily exercise and getting a good dose of vitamin D. What couples don't always know that when TTC, is that certain exercises are to be avoided, such as muscle building exercise, long distance running and cycling, as they create more stress in the body and can cause hormonal imbalance particularly with testosterone levels. Exercise such as walking, yoga and cardio all have a positive impact.
The reduction in the amount of things we can do, has meant that couples have been resting, relaxing and catching up on sleep. When we are relaxed the body moves out of the fight and flight stress response and instead returns to our rest and digest state, also known as feed and bred.
What I’ve also noticed is that clients have used this time to truly understand what’s happening in their cycles, noticing the impact of making small changes.
I am always looking for the silver lining in any situation and for couples TTC I truly believe if you can focus on what’s in your control, you can support your body and mind to be in an optimal place for conception.
